Fohhn moved from several scattered buildings to its new headquarters in Nürtingen. The building is oriented towards energy efficiency according to KFW-55, currently the highest standard. This was also planned with the participation of the employees. In addition to an energy-efficient building envelope, air-source heat pump for heating and cooling, cross heat exchanger for heat recovery from equipment such as the paint shop, compressors or the necessary soldering wave, above all a modern, software-supported building management system was integrated. A PV system is planned for the end of 2021. It will cover the entire in-house energy demand and feed green electricity into the grid. Research and development, final assembly, quality assurance, logistics, sales and administration all take place at the company headquarters in Nürtingen. 75 % of the suppliers are located within a 300 km radius and 80 % of the suppliers have been working for the manufacturer for more than 10 years.
Sustainability is already considered in product development with a focus on the careful use of resources. It is also reflected in the principle of "repair instead of dispose". The company keeps spare parts for service for at least 10 years and gives a 5-year guarantee on its products. The products are packed exclusively with environmentally friendly, unprinted and 100 % recyclable corrugated cardboard made from reforestable wood from an FSC-certified German company.
In addition to numerous steps for sustainable working within the company and benefits for employees, Fohhn supports voluntary work with its resources and assumes social responsibility in a variety of ways.
In 2020, with the support of Nürtingen University and the Centre for Sustainable Development, the company's own Climate Council was founded in order to advocate sustainability and climate protection even more strongly in the future together with the workforce. In the medium term, the company aims to achieve CO2 neutrality without purchasing environmental certificates.
These and many other measures of sustainable management convinced the Professional System editorial team. Board member Uli Haug accepted the award on behalf of the entire staff and thanked the Fohhn team for their decisive personal commitment. He emphasised that there is still a lot to do and that we owe this to our children and future generations.
To the delight of the attending board members and sales staff, Fohhn Audio AG was awarded "Industry Member of the Year". The editors of Professional System cited the audio manufacturer's sustainable actions, which are still rather rare in the industry, as the reason for the award.
