Essen stadium (Germany)

The home to former German champions Rot-Weiss Essen was undergoing an extensive reconstruction programme from 2011 to 2012. The former stadium was demolished in stages and replaced with a brand new facility. Initial rebuilding phases were planned to allow the continuation of matches while work is carried out. During its rebuild, the entire stadium has been equipped with Fohhn loudspeaker systems.

The stadium’s overall capacity is 20,000 people and can be increased to accommodate around 35,000 people. When football matches are not taking place, the facility play host to other events such as meetings, road shows and ceremonies.

Eight AT-66 high performance full-range systems provide sound coverage for the two long spectator stands, while six AT-66 units cover the two shorter ones. The entire system is operated via a FC-9 Fohhn DSP system controller. In the stadium’s event box, six CS-08 ceiling speakers have been fitted. The boxes on the second floor of the stadium have each been equipped with four compact CS-04 ceiling speakers. 16 AT-061 loudspeakers and three XS-30 active subwoofers have been installed in the “Assindia” business area, while the “Kulturfreude” business area has been fitted with four Linea LX-150 line source systems and two XS-30 active subs. The basement press area has been equipped with six CS-04 ceiling speakers.

We congratulate VR-Intercom Technik on this very successful project!
