Compatibility with Optocore and Dante: Digital developments from Fohhn

Fohhn announces future plan to equip all active loudspeakers with digital interfaces.

Since 2015, the first of Fohhn’s award-winning Linea Focus Beam Steering loudspeaker models have been available with an integrated Optocore interface. Connection to this digital network offers several advantages.

Using a ring-shaped cable configuration to connect all the devices in a network not only reduces the cabling requirement and its associated costs, it also greatly improves overall reliability. As for the lightweight fibre optic cable itself: This cable is also electrically isolated, offering safer, interference-free transmission of audio signals over a long distance - distances of 70km can be covered. Even using the simplest configuration, two devices located 700 metres apart can be connected. A maximum latency of 41 microseconds guarantees speedy data dissemination – even at transfer rates of 1GB per second, with 512 audio channels at 48k sampling frequency.

Optocore networks are currently used in the professional audio sector, with alarm systems and installations, as well as in touring and live concert sound.

At both Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) in Amsterdam and Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt, Fohhn will preview a new 19-inch breakout box developed for the increasingly widespread Dante network. This offers 16 channels of Dante to AES/EBU. Linea Focus systems with integrated Dante interfaces are planned for future release.
