Ehingen Jazz Festival (Germany)

In a recent performance at the Ehinger Lindenhalle, Icelandic band Mezzoforte delivered rather more than their “moderately loud” name might imply. As part of the 28th Ehingen Jazz Festival (7-9th October 2016), the band, formed in Reykjavík in 1977, brought a powerful mix of Icelandic funk and jazz rock to the Swabian region of south-west Germany.

For their festival concert – a joint event organised by the Ehingen Jazz Club and the town’s cultural department – the musicians had use of Fohhn's newest PA system: the Perform PT-70. This compact, high performance, 2-way loudspeaker system has been specially developed for concert sound and touring applications. The PT-70 is equipped with two 12" low-mid chassis in compression chamber, horn loaded and with a 1.4" high frequency compression driver.

A unique feature of the PT-70 is the possibility to manually switch between the speaker’s standard bass reflex operation and a new cardioid functionality. In cardioid mode, this low-mid range system produces notably fewer disruptive, backward sound emissions – as seen in the Lindenhalle where the audience enjoyed a first-class jazz sound and high levels of speech intelligibility.

Four PT-70 systems were used in total – two per side, arranged in a cardioid setup together with three 18" Fohhn subwoofers. In addition, two compact, passive XT-10 systems were placed on the edge of the stage and used for nearfield coverage of the front rows.
