Ace Café, Luzern (Switzerland)

London’s Ace Café is a legendary venue for motor enthusiasts. Since the 1930s, the British “cult café” has served as a meeting place for bikers. More recently it has also become “the place to be” for Petrol Heads and Ton Up Boys. However, since the middle of 2015, Rothenburg, near Lucerne in Switzerland, has also been able to boast its own official Ace Café.

Owner Dany Kunz wanted to create a modern technical infrastructure for the new café. This naturally included its sound reinforcement system, the planning of which was entrusted to V-Tech Veranstaltungstechnik. Fohhn XT-22 high performance full range systems and XS-30 subwoofers have been installed to provide sound coverage for concerts – powered by a D-4.1200 DSP amplifier. For background music in the café, six compact Arc-Series AT-05 loudspeakers and two AS-22 subwoofers have been added. A further four AT-05 systems have been installed in the café’s outdoor area.

“It is extremely important for us to offer customers the best possible quality combined with optimum value for money“, says Marcel Roos, project leader and co-owner of V-Tech Veranstaltungstechnik.“As an Authorized Fohhn Partner, the choice of systems was quickly made, as Fohhn has exactly the right products in its portfolio to cope with the demands of providing both concert sound and background music reproduction within a standard hospitality environment. We are really proud of the results.”

Dany Kunz is also impressed: “I have high demands for design and quality and wasn’t sure if my requirement for this particular level of music quality could be met within a hospitality venue. However, I am delighted with the results. Even when the background music is running, I’m constantly surprised at its clean, powerful sound”.

When used for live performances, the Fohhn system has also created a buzz: “I’m excited about this, as are all the artists and technicians who have already been on stage here. Powerful sound, deep bass and clear sound dispersion in the mid- and high frequency ranges. From the outset, it was also very important that we could achieve the required sound levels. I have frequently experienced systems that are unable to cope with these. That is most definitely not the case with our Fohhn systems. I am completely satisfied that we have installed the right products here in the Ace – and we will have a lot of pleasure from them for many years to come.”

Sennheiser (Switzerland) and Fohhn would like to thank Dany Kunz from Ace Café Lucerne and Marcel Roos from V-Tech Veranstaltungstechnik for the trust they have shown in our systems. Congratulations on a highly successful project!
